The Single Girl’s Guide to Being Incredibly Decadent (For Under $10)
When you are
single you can do whatever the hell you want whenever you want to. Well,
outside of work hours and social commitments. And within the confines of the
law, of course. And provided you have enough money... Which I don’t, usually. But
what I do have is some experience finding ways to make yourself feel like you
are being incredibly decedent without actually spending money. And if you are
on your own, in your own space, why not take the time to get a bit...
eccentric?
Of course you
don’t have to be single to enjoy these things – they could easily be enjoyed as
a couple, or if you have the house to yourself for a few hours one day take advantage
of the quiet and enjoy!
Luxury
Cinema Bubble Bath
What you will
need:
·
Microwave Popcorn, drinks, other snacks as
desired
·
Candles
·
Bubble Bath
·
Laptop which can play DVDs (or a portable DVD
player. Etc etc)
·
A bathroom with a bathtub
Start running
a nice, hot bubble bath.
Set your
laptop up on the closed lid of the toilet (this will put it at eye level while
you are in the bath). If you the bathtub/toilet are at the wrong angles to one
another or the toilet is in another room bring in a small table/side table from
somewhere else in the house. A chair or a large box works as well. And/or you
can use this to rest your snacks and drinks on so they are in easy reach.
Light your
candles, get your snacks set up, then start the movie playing before you hop
into the bath. It’s problematic trying to do things the other way around.
Enjoy the self
indulgence!
Lost in a
Good Book
You will need:
·
A picnic blanket
·
Pillows, cushions, beanbags etc (whatever you
have in your house)
·
A good book (or a magazine if you are more inclined)
·
A cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate and snacks or
whatever tickles your fancy (optional)
Find a nice
semi-shady spot either in your backyard or in a park somewhere close by. (If
you feel too self-conscious about people seeing you, try doing this in your
lounge room.)
Spread out the
picnic blanket and pile the pillows, cushions, beanbags etc on top of it.
Put your book
and snacks etc within easy reach. Once again I’d recommend using a small
occasional table, a chair, or a box.
Flop down in
the pile of comfortable things and wiggle around a little if needs be to find
the most comfortable spot. A good idea is to pile a few more cushions to prop
your head up.
Now let
yourself relax and get lost in a good book.
DIY Chocolate Fondue
What you will
need:
·
An oil burner
·
A tea light
·
A heat-proof food-safe bowl which fits onto the
oil burner
·
A block of chocolate
·
Cherries/raspberries/strawberries/bananas/marshmallows
etc
Although you
can get fondue sets and chocolate fountains for pretty reasonable prices, you
don’t actually need one if you already have an oil burner. Simply replace your
oil burner bowl with an appropriate food dish. Light the tea light under it and
place several pieces of chocolate in the bowl. Once this has melted begin
dipping pieces of fruit or marshmallows into the chocolate and eat.
This is so good
on a wintery night. (Or any time, really!)

All great ideas!
ReplyDeleteAll sounds good. If one's daring, you could even combine the Luxury cinema bath with the fondue.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'd try to watch a whole movie in the bath though, as I'd be concerned about it getting too cold.
Good ideas. Maybe a luxury episode-of-something bubble bath if one is worried about pruning, or cold. Benj obviously doesn't top up his bath when required the way I do!
ReplyDeleteI've really started enjoying sitting outside reading lately. And it's helping me get my extra vitamin D top up :)
