The 4th Annual Festival of the Fellowship

4 years ago I gathered together a small group of friends with a single purpose – to watch all 3 extended editions of Lord of the Rings back to back within a day.  At the conclusion of this feat so tremendous was our joy that we declared our intent to repeat it year after year. And so it began. I call it The Festival of the Fellowship.
Every year I have transformed my lounge room into “Lounge Lorien” with a collection of posters, film merchandise, candles, books, and suitably Middle Earth-like knick knacks.

This is my favourite - 5 tealight candle holder with glass base which can be filled with whatever you like to suit any theme. I mostly leave it like this year-round. (Look closely).

However, the focal point of each day has been the food. Traditionally between the 1st and 2nd discs of the Fellowship of the Ring I cook second breakfast of sausages, tomato and nice crispy bacon. Between the 1st and 2nd discs of Return of the King is dinner – fish and chips. (Get it? Yes? Ok good.) The rest of the day is spent eating as much as we can from THE TABLE. The table is my favourite thing about the day. Every year I’ve done something different, and the past couple of years I’ve themed tables around different regions of Middle Earth.

Hobbiton Table – including Bilbo’s birthday cake and a couple of bottles of Old Wynyard, 1296, very good year.

Gondor Table – Fit for a Steward. (Gondor needs no king.)

This year I was given an amazing birthday present by Tanith – a set of Tanith-crafted Rohan napkins!  http://jupiterhollowcrafts.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/lord-of-rings-napkins.html As soon as I got them I started planning my table. A glorious feast for the Horse Lords:

And now the fellowship has disbanded, until we all meet again (next year).
